Free writing 4 - Sant Joan night

Sant Joan night!

Sant Joan night is a festival celebrated principally in Spain, in English this festival, or a festival that is similar, is called Midsummer. The day when this festival is celebrated is on the 23rd of June and the 24th.
This festival symbolizes the summer arrival, and the 23rd night is the shortest night of the year.
The most important thing in this Spanish -and principally Catalan- festival is to have dinner with the family, maybe in the beach and if possible ignite a bonfire; and also eat a kind of cake called Coca de Sant Joan, which is very typical of Catalonia.
This is a night related with the fire, and because of it, this festival is also called the fire’s night.

I celebrate this festival with my friends in the Empuriabrava’s beach, where there are a lot of people, and all of our friends go there on Sant Joan. Then, there are also fireworks, which are very amazing and completely fantastic.
I think that Empuriabrava is a very nice place to celebrate Sant Joan, because the beach, which is very big, it’s full of people that want to enjoy with the sea, and also swim on the sea. Last year, my friends and I swam, the water was too cold (it was three o’clock of the dawn) but we think that it wasn’t important and we entered in the water.
Last year it was very good, and I enjoyed a lot, I look forward the next Sant Joan night, and I hope that it’ll be as last year, or if possible, better!

OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

THE MOST IMPACTANT OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

Concentrate on the four small dots in the middle of the picture for 30 or 40 seconds. Then look at any smooth single coloured surface near yoy (wall, paper,...). You will see a circle of light developing. Now blink your eyes a lot of times and you will see an image emerging. Don you recognize the image?!

How many legs has this elephant got?!

Look at the blue dot, in the middle of the image, for ten seconds approximately, then you will see the windmill moving!

Is this image moving?!

NEW - The smallest girl in the world

THE SMALLEST GIRL

Yes, it's incredible, but I've founded the smallest girl in the world. She's a teenager, she's fourteen and she is shorter than the average two-year-old child. This girl, whose name is Jyoti Amge, weights only five kilos.

She has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia and won't grow any taller than her current height.
Jyoti has to have clothes and jewellery made for her. She sleeps in a tiny bed and uses special plates and cutlery to eat because normal-sized utensils are too big and heavy for her.

She said:

'I am proud of being small. I love all the attention I get. I'm not scared of being small and I don't regret it.

'I'm just the same as other people. I eat like you, dream like you. I don't feel any different.

FORMAL LETTER

A formal letter to Ms Lluïsa Pintó

4 Sant Pere Pescador Street
Castelló d’Empúries
15th January 2010

The headmistress
IES Castelló d’Empúries
Castelló d’Empúries

Dear Ms Lluïsa Pintó

I am a student of first batxillerat in this high school, and I give this letter to you to tell you about the new school calendar, because I would like to you know the good and bad points of it.

First of all I think that it is good the batxillerat students could have most of the eves to study, and I understand that we have to start classes at eight o’clock, but I think that the ESO students disagree with that, because it had never been as now.

In my experience, it is difficult to get up at seven o’clock when you used to get up at eight o’clock at primary school.

I know that you will not change the school calendar, but thanks for read my letter.

Yours faithfully,

Helena Sánchez Cano

FILM REVIEW

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE MORGANS?

FILM REVIEW:

Meryl and Paul are the main characters of this film. They are getting divorce, but Paul, is still in love with Meryl. They have been witnesses of a murder in New York. They are in danger and the police suggest them to go to the witnesses’ protection programme.
They have to go on a mess situated in Wyoming. They are accustomed to de city life, and for both, is difficult to adapt at the situation.
In Wyoming they have to coexist together though they want to forget each other.
In the mess where they are staying, there are a woman and a men who are in love; they want to help the New York pair because they now that they are still in love.
Meryl and Paul have to ride horses, participate on rodeos… and these things make them laugh and be happy with each other.
At the end of the film, the police find the murderer, and Paul and Meryl can go back to New York, but now, they start to live together again, and Meryl is pregnant, which make them happier.

MY OPINION:

This is a film I saw last month in the cinema, with my friends. I enjoyed a lot because Hugh Grant (Paul) is a very funny actor and Sarah Jessica Parker (Meryl) too. This is a very funny film, and also is a romantic film which explains that the love can come back if you are really in love.
In my opinion this kind of films are better than the typical romantic films, because a humorous movie is always better than a movie that is just romantic.
I think that this two actors are the appropriated for this kind of movies, because they are funny and they have got a lot of humour felt.

THINGS TO VISIT

New York City: New York is the
most populous city in the United States, and the center of the New York metropolitan area, which is one of the most populous urban areas in the world. Here you should visit Central Park, Time’s Square, the Empire state, etc.

Colorado: It was abandoned hundreds of years ago, it’s a great place to check out, just a bit of ancient ruins right here in your own backyard.

-Grand Canyon: The Grand Canyon speaks history and engulfs your soul, it’s so beautiful and worth any effort it may take to see it.

Mackinac Island: On Mackinac Island there are no cars, as soon as you get off the boat you get a horse or a bicycle. There are many places to visit on the island like Old fort Mackinac. There are many sights and activities for the whole family on this island.

Florida: If you go with the family, we recommend you to go to Walt Disney World, is an amusement park related to the films from Disney like Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, The Lion King...

Miami: The most visited in this city are the famous beaches where all the tourists go on summer. If you go here surely you will understand them because an important part of the population speaks Latino Spanish.

MY REFLECTION:

Our oral presentation was about the United States, a country where we want to go.
We didn’t use resources, because we though that with this topic it was impossible, but then we saw other presentations where other pupils used for example the typical clothes of the country that they did. But in our presentation there were a lot of images about everything that we explained.
We last long, and I think that we go faster than we thought.

In this presentation I watched at my paper in a lot of occasions, but also I was looking at the audience. My friend, Julia, who was doing the oral presentation with me, was very good: she didn’t read anything and she spook very well. I was lucky to her.

Our information was very good and organized because we started for the history, and then we explained other things that were more visual. We searched a lot of information about the United States and I think that it improved our presentation, because also it is important.

Maybe we didn’t said all the word’s pronunciation good, but you have to understand it, in the oral presentations we are nervous. I think that we used some linking words and connectors, and it’s a thing that make easy the comprehension of our information.

A VERY TENDER SONG

I don't want to miss a thing
Aerosmith

Lyrics:

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing,
Watch you smile while you are sleeping,
While you're far away and dreaming,
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender,
I could stay lost in this moment forever,
When every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

(Chorus)
I don't wanna close my eyes,
I don't wanna fall asleep,
Cause I'd miss you babe,
And I don't wanna miss a thing,
Cause even when I dream of you,
The sweetest dream would never do,
I'd still miss you babe,
And I don't wanna miss a thing.

Lying close to you,
feeling your heart beating,
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming,
Wondering if it's me you're seeing,
And then I kiss your eyes,
And thank God we're together,
I just wanna stay with you in this moment forever,
Forever and ever.

(Chorus)
I don't wanna close my eyes,
I don't wanna fall asleep,
Cause I'd miss you babe,
And I don't wanna miss a thing,
Cause even when I dream of you,
The sweetest dream would never do,
I'd still miss you babe,
And I don't wanna miss a thing.

And I don't wanna miss one smile,
I don't wanna miss one kiss,
I just wanna be with you
,
Right here with you, just like this,
Well I just wanna hold you close,
And feel your heart so close to mine,
And just stay here in this moment,
For all the rest of time
Yeah (yeah) yeah (yeah) yeah

(Chorus x2)
I don't wanna close my eyes,
I don't wanna fall asleep,
Cause I'd miss you babe,
And I don't wanna miss a thing,
Cause even when I dream of you,
The sweetest dream would never do,
I'd still miss you babe,
And I don't wanna miss a thing.
I Don't wanna close my eyes
I Don't wanna fall asleep, yeah
I don't wanna miss a thing.

Think about the main points - FRANKENSTEIN

FRANKENSTEIN

This kind of experiments: put life into dead bodies, haven’t got limits, because when a scientist crates a creature or a monster, he doesn’t know what will happen when he puts life into it.

In one hand, these experiments are good because we have to improve for the future, but a scientist should be sure, before put life into it.
It’s true that if a scientist never tries it, he will never know what will happen after put life into the dead body.
In second hand, these experiments are bad and dangerous because when a scientist creates a body, he doesn’t know how will be his personality, because he doesn’t create a good or a bad mind, he just join pieces.
Knowing what happens with the monster that Victor Frankenstein, who is the main character of the book that we have read, put life into human bodies, could be very dangerous and also frightening for the people that don’t know which kind of experiment is it.

Finally, in my opinion, isn’t necessary put life unto dead bodies, because there are enough humans and enough catastrophes in the world.
